Boston’s “most versatile” snow-removal machine invented by MBTA machinist
Yesterday The Boston Globe published an article highlighting the MBTA’s impressive arsenal of snow-removal equipment, including a piece of innovative machinery invented by a MBTA machinist during 2015’s notoriously severe winter that crippled much of the area’s public transit.
The multi-purpose machine, nicknamed “The Big Idea” by The Globe, is the agency’s “most versatile” piece of machinery when it comes to snow removal, and features a snow blower, rubber tracks, and the ability to fit into tight spaces.
Following its invention in 2015, the agency commissioned an outside company to manufacture eight identical pieces of machinery.
