MBTA sues former parking lot operator

Last Thursday the MBTA filed a lawsuit against LAZ Parking Ltd. LAZ Parking is a privately-held company that managed parking operations for the MBTA from 2013 until the termination of their contract in 2016. The suit alleges that millions of dollars in parking revenue were stolen by LAZ employees during their three-year management of MBTA parking lots. It seeks to collect double the amount of money stolen by LAZ in addition to other fees and penalties. This case further highlights the importance of investing in public transit systems, rather than outsourcing management to private companies that can be difficult to hold accountable.
