Privatization schemes surrounding Washington D.C. Metro services

A recent article by Jeremy Mohler of In the Public Interest highlights privatization schemes surrounding the Washington D.C. Metro services.

The Washington D.C. area Metro service is the only subway system in a major U.S. city that does not have dedicated funding, which has resulted in poor services and a drastic decrease in ridership numbers due to years of underfunding. In response, the Washington D.C. Metro Board recently proposed a variety of ideas for improving services, which include outsourcing maintenance and parking services.

Mohler points to the failure of recent efforts to outsource services of both the D.C. Circulator bus service and the Streetcar, making the case for investment and funding for public transit services in both D.C. and the rest of the nation.
